The guest speakers for Megaworld’s Wellness Fair 2019 were all praises for the company as the event was considered a big success. Hosted annually, the fair was held on August 16 at the Alliance Global Tower.
Kenen Rouse Gonza, RND, the resource person for the talk “Nutrition and Diet: Myths and Facts,” held at the 25/F Faith Room, said 50 to 70 percent of employees in attendance already knew how to take care of themselves. He supplemented their knowledge with basic tips on diet, lifestyle and exercise.
“Pinaka-reluctant sila sa exercise. Kapag food, buhay na buhay sila, pero kapag exercise ‘yung iba nakasimangot,” said Gonza. He believes that Megaworld can improve the health of its employees further after his private consultation with some of the employees in the afternoon, a first for Megaworld’s Wellness Fair.
“Kasi ‘yung tatlong patients na na-handle ko na overweight, may problem sila sa puso, including hypertension and cholesterol,” he said. He commended Megaworld for having exercise equipment in the building. He stated that it empowers people. “Kahit gaano kaganda ang recommendations ng dietitian, kung wala namang proper exercise useless siya,” he said.
Meanwhile, the blood donation drive opened as early as 8:30 in the morning, while the wellness booths were allowing people in as early as 12:30 p.m.
Employees who registered at the booths at the entrance of The Great Hall at the 26/F received an apple, a Fruitas gift certificate, and a “bingo” stub. The stub was equivalent to one raffle entry for the afternoon raffle.
Megaworld Wellness and Security Bank raffled off a 32-inch Smart TV, among other appliances, as well as numerous gift certificates at the end of the Wellness Fair.
All throughout the event, employees were invited to the stage for various games.
They also participated in the salad making activity, which tested their ability to create healthy meals on the spot.
In the afternoon, Sun Life Financial’s Iris Lara Nuñez gave a talk on how to become financially prepared for the future. Her advice? Start saving small, no matter what amount, because it will eventually grow in the future.
Nuñez applauded the company for its love for its employees. “I am very impressed with Megaworld. You really take care of employees not just by making sure they get their benefits, but also by educating them, and empowering them to do things independently.”
She added, “The truth is, an employer can only do so much. At the end of the day, it’s the employee’s responsibility toward himself/herself to really take care of his/her finances and health. I see so much excellence in how you treat your employees, Megaworld. Keep on doing it because the ripple effect of these benefits helps Filipinos live a better life.”
Thank you for supporting this year’s Wellness Fair, everyone! See you next year!
