MANILA, Philippines. The infrastructure unit of tycoon Andrew Tan’s Alliance Global Group Incorporated (AGI) expects to start construction of its proposed P3-billion Skytrain in 2018.
Moreover, the two-kilometer Skytrain monorail would link the Guadalupe Station of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3). Further, it would link to Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City. Therefore, this will benefit the Megaworld project UPTOWN ARTS in BGC. Especially, more for future price increase and as an ideal property investment.
AGI said its infrastructure unit, Infracorp Development Incorporated, has already been given original proponent status by the Department of Transportation (DOTr). This was a statement on Monday, May 28.
With the DOTr’s approval, the proposed Skytrain would now be up for review. Further, it is to be reviewed by National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board’s Investment Coordination Committee.
“We can start the project before the year ends and [it] will take us two years to complete it. By early 2021, we can open the Skytrain to the public,” said Infracorp president Kevin Tan. Kevin Tan is the current CEO of Megaworld Corporation.
Infracorp submitted its unsolicited Skytrain proposal to the DOTr on October 26, 2017. The company would build the Skytrain and transfer the ownership title to the government. However, it would have the sole right to operate the monorail.
“We laud the government’s quick action [on] the proposal. That is to say, this is another clear indication of the government’s serious commitment. And their focus on infrastructure developments.” Tan said.
The Skytrain would reduce travel time from the MRT Guadalupe Station to BGC and vice versa to only 5 minutes. This is according to AGI. Further, the firm said it would benefit around 60,000 to 100,000 passengers daily. Further, this is going to and from Makati City and Taguig City.
“We envision to connect Makati to Taguig and vice versa. Subsequently, these two largest business districts in the country need an efficient and fast transport system. These systems must be at par with what the other business districts in cosmopolitan cities like Tokyo and Sydney have,” Tan said.
Infracorp is part of NAIA Consortium in talks with DOTr. Moreover, these talks are for proposal to rehabilitate, develop, operate and maintain Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Infracorp is interested in doing other projects on transport solutions. They want to do so in several business districts around Metro Manila. In addition, they also plan to do this in key growth areas around the country.
UPTOWN BONIFACIO (BGC) is next to SkyTrain.
